Results grand final day 2017
Despite winning the 2017 Club Championship and after two outstanding years, Lakes Grand Final Day dominance has come to an end.
Unfortunately our U19s lost their Grand Final 16-6 to a hungry Cessnock side who where committed to going home with the trophy. Well played to both teams and all the best for a successful 2018.
No body gave Macquarie a chance against a West team that have been red hot this year. At half time West led 6-4 after a tough first half where Macquarie made it clear they were here to win. They played tough, mistake free football and gave West few chances.
At half time there was a feeling that West perhaps didn’t script it this way. Earlier in the day, some West supporters had indicated that they expected Macquarie to fade away in the last 20 minutes, and it appeared, at times, that West were waiting for this to happen.
A mistake from the kick off at the start of the second half saw Macqaurie get the ball back and score soon after, taking them out to a 10-6 lead. From there they simply gained momentum and their relentless pressure caused West to make many mistakes. An intercept try on full time summed up the West’s second half, Macquarie wining the match 24-6.
Macquarie’s win, was a win for all Clubs, like Lakes who are committed to developing their juniors and giving them an opportunity to play first grade football. Just like our win in 2015 nobody expected Macquarie to win, but a win like this proves that you can’t buy belief, it has to be grown from within.
In summary West beat Souths in Reserve Grade 31-12.
